Real Online Poker

real online poker

The term real online poker might be confusing to some people: how can something that you play online, with digital money and digital cards, in any way be real?

The fact of the matter is, though, that as long as you are playing with money that can be withdrawn or exchanged for other real items of value, you are playing real poker online. Many people tend to differ between poker that is played in the real world, in tournaments such as WSOP (World Series of Poker), and poker that is played online in front of a computer screen.

And yes, there are certainly differences between online poker and real poker, but who’s really to say that one is more real than the other? When playing online, all you really do is utilizing technology to be able to play against opponents in other parts of the world. You still play with money that has gone from your bank account or pocket into your account with the poker company. And, though the cards might just be made up by pixels on a screen, the gameplay they constitute is every bit as real as in “real” poker games.

The one and only real difference I can see between real poker and online poker is that you are not able to spot physical tells on other players. Your opponent might be jumping up and down in his or hers chair, but to you it still looks like he or she is the coolest and most laidback person in the world. This is, of course, a disadvantage for a lot of players who base their game style on reading other people, but at the same time there are actually tells that you can spot online too. And as far as the whole social bit is concerned, I much prefer the chat functions of the online poker sites to the noise and racket of the live casinos, don’t you?
